FYI, With all the talk about Code/400, I thought there might be many who would be interested in this announcement posted to the Code/400 mailing list. Bob -----Original Message----- From: Edmund Reinhardt [SMTP:reinhard@ca.ibm.com] Sent: Friday, February 27, 1998 2:10 PM To: code400-l@borzak.com Subject: New release of CODE/400 is here!! Today we are releasing a brand new version of ADTS CS containing updated versions of CODE/400 and VisualAge for RPG! The big enhancements for CODE/400 are TCP/IP support, CODE Designer a modern version of DSU, Java and thread support in the Debugger. CODE/400 no longer needs Client Access and SNA to talk with the host, it can now simply use the built-in TCP/IP support of Windows 95 or Windows NT. This dramatically simplifies the installation and configuration overhead as well as the every day use of communications. CODE Designer is an ultra-modern tool for designing your DDS screens and reports. Those who are familiar with the OS/2 offering, will recognize the value proposition that DSU brought to the table. In this debut on Windows the user interface has been completely modernized with a great deal of focus on maximizing the useability. It is well integrated, highly visual, easy to learn and a great depth of function is always just a button click away. The centerpiece of CODE Designer is the Design Page where you can layout your screens and reports (and maintain existing DSPF and PRTF source) with drag and drop ease on a WYSIWYG representation. See the effects of indicators. Move a PRTF field and have the SKIP and SPACE keywords automatically handled for you. Create fields complete with currency and editing simply by typing what you want to see and hitting a button. But CODE Designer is more than just a pretty face. It has the entire DDS compiler built into it, minus the object generation. This means that you can get full verification that your DDS is free from all compiler errors before wasting any host cycles. The error feedback is built in and highly visual helping you quickly resolve any errors. For anyone who maintains or develops DSPF or PRTF DDS, this tool is a must-have. A number of other enhancements have been made to the product. The editor now supports Java, complete with error feedback. In fact you can even extend the editor using macros written in Java allowing complex user interfaces. The editor has additional support for column sensitive languages like RPG and DDS, so that insert and delete will never shift the data in columns other than the field you are working in. The CODE Project Organizer has a number of enhancements including an easily accessible command line, quick and easy creation of projects and filters etc. The Option dialogs for all the compiler commands and program verifiers have been completely updated into modern notebooks. The new release is V3R2M1. The ordering PID is 5716-CL3 for RISC or 5763-CL3 for CISC. Service Pack 002 is also concurrently available via PTF SF46857 for the latest enhancements and bug fixes. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to "MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com". | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
