IMHO, isn't writing in one language to generate another the point of a compiler?

The fact that the resulting code is interpreted or processes through a JIT
compiler is not relevant.

4 GL languages create code that is compiled, I see nothing inherently evil about
a development environment that creates code that is interpreted.  Especially if
the interpretation step is a limitation of the resulting codes implementation.
(That can change)

So long as the intermediate code is captured for study, I think it's a wonderful
learning tool.  And who knows, once we study the code some may decide that a
single RPG EVAL statement is easier, more cost effective, than coding the
equavalent JAVA statements.  Or some may get up the courage to give up the
familiar.
