Hi KMS, I think you are suffering from the old "bad advice" syndrom... If your S36 Database is in an AS400 library (eg. QS36F), there is no reason in the world that you cannot define your files via DDS to the AS400 and begin right now using the features of the AS400 that will make your life simple. Right now I am working at a company that has what would be considered an horrific database originally from from the S34---then---S36, this stuff shouldn't even be called a database. But we have DDS described files from this shameful S36 database and we are able to use them. As for ILE.....You'd better get moving in this direction now. And yes I have written several ILE RPG programs that access the S36 database, and you can to! >I have a model 200 AS/400 running Version V3R1M2. >We are a somewhat small company, about 30 - 35 users using >either CA or dummies. > >I have a few questions to ask. > >1) I upgraded to the 400 a few years back. Some of the old >36 commands still run, but only if your setup under 36 >mode. And some programs only run under 36. Is there any >way to get rid of this, or do I want to? >2) I would also like to know if we should upgrade the OS at >all? >3) I don't know anything about ILE but we have it installed >and I would like to start migrating that way. Can I just >start converting or creating new RPGIV code and do all that >good stuff now? > >I just heard from my predicessor that since we have an old >36 database that we can not use ILE and bind our programs or >what not. If anyone could help me in the information I need >it would be greatly appreciated. Any additional information >would also be helpful. >Thanks in advance. >KMS +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to "MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com". | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
