     A watched pot never boils...

After around 15 unsuccessful attempts, waiting and watching, I
finally
started the download "one last time" and walked away. Of course,
it
     worked.

Here is the report extract from our ftp site support.

"The server is functioning correctly and the timeout on the server are
set
very high (600 seconds - i.e. 10 minutes) . That means that if no packet

request is received over a 10 minute period, then our server closes the
connection. A download is a sequence of packet requests.

The server typically handles about 500 concurrent FTP requests. It is
working correctly as the system logs show most downloads as completing
successfully. Downloads can fail on the customer's end for a variety of
reasons: firewalls, proxy servers, local network traffic, etc."
