IWS lets me, an about average old-timey RPG programmer, use my existing
skills to provide DB/2 data in useful forms to an outside world that
neither cares about nor respects our platform and the generations of
tribal knowledge built into our installations. Will it save our
platform? Who knows. But hey, predictions of the end of the AS/400
were being made when OS/2 was still a contender.
Plus, I discovered, I can consume web services in RPG! Want a
personalized Weather Watch 5250 program that tells you weather
condition in different cities of your choosing... Well, I'm your guy! LOL

Tim left out the best part! If you have IBM i the IWS server is part of the no charge licensed program products included with IBM i and there is no additional charge for IBM support. Furthermore one of the IWS lead developers monitors this list and answers questions directly. That in my view is more important than any other perceived issues with IWS.
