Yes it does.. just offering another option. It seems he did find the list
of environment variables in the end. :)

Brad,

Doesn't the HTTP server set an environment ("HTTPS") already?

Also, are you sure Justin wanted to check this inside a program? (If so,
why would he be asking about logs?)

You add those statements to your HTTP config then retrieve the
environment
variable in your program to see which one they are on.

Here's a real world example (go to the Powered by Apache HTTP
Configuration
for the IBM i section.)

I've also done exactly what you are asking for a few clients.

So you add that to request responses and then monitor what's coming in?
Would each page have to watch for that?

Subject: Re: [WEB400] Identify http:// connections

you could add your own headers to each request to know which one it is.
Inside each virtualhost...

<virtualhost xxxxxx:80>
SetEnv SITE_ENV http
.....
</virtualhost>

<virtualhost xxxxx:443>
SetEnv SITE_ENV https
....
</virtualhost>

Then you can grab the SITE_ENV (or whatever you want to call it) and
tell
what environment it is.

I have an internal Apache instance that allows both HTTP and HTTPS
connections. Is there a good way to identify clients connecting in
the clear using HTTP? It looks like I could try and parse my
access_log, but that seems clunky and error prone.
