Yes, interpreted is slower than compiled. But that's what node is all about. It not only allows JavaScript to run on servers, it compiles to machine language on servers to run really fast. Performance is also improved by making good use the event-loop architecture (passing time consuming functions to worker threads), spawning child processes, and using the cluster functionality for load balancing.
I agree it's not easy to benchmark these things-on any system. But that kind of leaves me with nothing to go on but the general claims I see online from other systems. Which is that node runs faster than CGI. If CGI on the IBM i is much better than CGI on other systems, then it might be worth trying to benchmark these things; otherwise, it's just a matter of opinion and guesses whether node or CGI performs better (or equally well) on IBM i.
