What settings change for a single server would take down all of them?

And, not to add complexity, but in my particular case I have 7 or 8 sites running in various states of disarray so in order not to bring down the whole stack to tweak the settings on one, I have a single instance as a reverse proxy that passes traffic back to my other instances.

Also, in my case, I have one external IP so using the reverse proxy makes it all simple and easy to manage external DNS and internal routing.
