I have a general best practice that has served me well over the years:
always, always, always develop with the same runtime/tools as production.
Why? Because minor subtleties could cause production
inconsistencies/errors. Not only the PHP runtime but also things like
Composer.

It is for that reason I do all my shell work via an SSH session into PASE
instead of my local shell (Mac user).

I use the browser-based cloud9/orion to edit IFS files.

I use ungit to visually manage my git in the IFS. I used to be a "command
line only" git guy, but I can organize commits so much faster with ungit
that I had to stop my purist pursuit :-)

For some systems I work on I use SublimeText3 + SFTP plugin to edit files
on the IFS. Works well.

On final note, if I were stuck on Windows I would use VirtualBox (or other)
and get a virtual instance of Ubuntu Desktop going so you can be in a
familiar desktop environment.

Hello Gang,

I know that I want to create a development environment on my partition.

I know I need to install Composer and Doctrine; maybe Symphony.

Are there any other tools I might want to install?

Is there something better that System i Navigator.

My primary development machine is a Windows 10 laptop; that is at work
in the office. But at home my primary is Linux, Unbuntu.

I am going to build 1 or 2 boxes for the office. The previous
developers used WebSmart from BCD Software To write most of the RPG. So
because of that, I am stuck with windows. The WebSmart PML is a lot nicer
to work with than directly with RPG.

Thanks
Rob
