Often, the trick is to install the certificates from the top level to the bottom without missing any steps. Each level verifies that the next level down is authentic.

Thanks Sam but I don't think that is what I need.

I already have a certificate from Comodo (i.e. a "Trusted authority") and for the task in hand I don't think a self-signed will work anyway.
