I think what you are asking is a very important question we need to ask for
non-integrated language/framework stacks. Once you aren't using what I'd
consider the languages native to the OS (i.e. RPG, CL) then what does IBMi
gain you over Amazon EC2 for running PHP/Java/RoR?

What do you tell them when they say: "Where's .Net ?" :-)

I still like i just like you guys, but language equality will not draw
developers to a platform.

They'll say: "I can develop on my desktop PC or Linux server. Why should
I develop on an i ?"

Just sayin.. Platform isn't enough any more.

Shoot, *I* can answer that: "Because it is there!". Well, no, actually,
it is more of the IBM i platform being a secure, high performing server
that can run all the latest languages and frameworks. If we are going to
attract the under 40 set, we need to have a server platform that can
natively run all the latest technologies "out of the box". Of your list of
languages, only PHP and perhaps .Net would be attractive to the younger
crowd. But Ruby and other languages and Rails and other frameworks are at
the edge of forward thinking programmers. IBM i shouldn't be lagging, it
should be leading when it comes to these programming options (IMHO).
