This is a strange request. It sounds like the "powers that be" have decreed that you aren't allowed to connect out of the network.

As such, is it really a good idea to find a way to work around that?

Having said that... do you have a computer that's accessible to your i5 that _does_ have the ability to connect to the web? Maybe a PC on the same LAN, where the PC has access to the web, but the i5 does not?

If that's the case, you could install http proxy software on the PC, and direct the program on the i5 to use your PC as a proxy. This would bypass the firewall.

But, not sure if it's a good idea. In my shop, if I decreed that my server running IBM i was not to access the web, and someone else in the company found a way to defeat that, that person would be looking for a new job.
