The minimal change needed to the AIX distribution (important!) appears to be removing the two JVM-argument lines containing "-client" and "-server" respectively in glassfish3/glassfish/domains/domain1/config/domain.xml. Not doing so, cause the sub process to fail with a lot of gibberish (have you found the right way to avoid that?)

Then enter qsh, cd to glassfish3/glassfish and run asadmin start-domain.

The admin page run even slower than expected (perhaps too little memory in the pool), but it appears most of the functionality is there.
