Kicking a dead horse here, I know....but...I was in L.A. this week at an
Adobe conference and I spoke with Zend about this very thing and as it was
explained to me, and Mike feel free to correct me if I am wrong...but if
Zend does NOT! Pick up this ball and run with it, that there will not be an
updated version of MySQL on the iSeries.

That is, Oracle is no longer going to extend any effort to maintain it and
ensure that IBM has the latest version(s). But Zend will so this is
actually a really great thing for the iSeries community.

My two cents.

I just got his in an email notification from Zend.

PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT
Zend DBi

As part of the extended and expanded partnership between Zend and IBM,
Zend will maintain and distribute a drop-in replacement for MySQL on
the IBM i operating system. Zend DBi will evolve with the IBM i
community's needs. Zend DBi, along with the DB2 Storage Engine from
IBM, will be shipped with Zend Server for IBM i. Commercial support
for Zend DBi will also be available.

That is good news for a Friday.
