Modernization has many layers and I was talking about the layer that the eye
sees. Modernization is fruitless if you don't make apps that people like to
see. I choose to live in the reality that if my page doesn't look good it
won't be used as much. People these days like a good looking style sheet
over functionality (I am somewhat a product of that also). Though if you
don't follow-up with good functionality then it will also die. But in my
experience, you can't have one or the other - you need both. That is one
reason why ExtJS is an easier choice for UI frameworks because it makes the
user immediately comfortable with good looking UI components.

I am not saying it is right, I am just saying it is reality.
