The idea is that Google is so good that will find it if your site is
easy to navigate and you are resonably linked to. Now that may not
help with the other search engines. The point these guys seem to be
making is not to spend money on SEO, spend it on marketing and social
media. SEO can only do so much. What point is there to SEO if no one
links to or talks about you website? Basic SEO sill needs to be done
(like descriptive URLs) but META tags and some other practices are
slowly going away.
The main site I have been hearing this from is the podcast Marketing
Over Coffee with Christopher Penn (and I forgot the other guy). I have
also heard this on This Week in Google quite a bit and possibly a
couple other sites I follow.
