Native RPG access to other databases would be very nice.

Programmers can read and write direct to browsers using IceBreak. RPG, COBOL, CL and C++ can be used. This technology already exists!

When Open I/O becomes generally available, I'd like to see I/O handlers for MS SQL Server as well as browser "devices", to enable RPG programmers to "read" from MS SQL tables, and "write" to browsers, and visa versa. That would be interesting. A lot of IBM i blood loss, as far as migration of applications to Windows is concerned, can be attributed to IBM i support for ODBC and JDBC interfaces. What if there were native RPG interfaces to MS SQL Server?

Yes, indeed.

Perhaps, instead of converting system i applications to run with things that can run on Intel, we should try to get Intel applications converted to run on system i.
