× The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

spits out a set of HTML files. Those would need to
be parsed.

That kind of leads us to Web services. If you can't get access to the database, then how about coordinating with whoever is spitting out HTML and see what it would take for them to spit out XML, so you could use an XML parser.
