Rick,

The httpid.pid is created at apache startup and is used during runtime.
the bigger problem may be /usr/local/Zend/Core/modules/apache2/libp5.so.
Check your permissions to the file and directory. Mine look like:

Data --Object Authorities--
User Authority Exist Mgt Alter Ref

*PUBLIC *RX
ZENDADMIN *RWX X X X X
NOBODY *RWX X X X X
QSECOFR *RWX X X X X
