It depends. The innerHTML property of [div] and [span] elements can hold plain text, as well as HTML. If you need formatted text, then you might insert HTML. Otherwise you can set the innerHTML property to a value retrieved from an XML element. Or, rather than changing the innerHTML property, you could be changing the "value" property of a form [input] element. The possibilities are only limited by one's creativity.
