On the server an "ajax" request looks just like any other request from
the browser, so there should be no difficulty in getting it to work
w/CGIDEV2. 

I would say, if you're using the XMLHTTPRequest object directly, please
don't. Look at a number of good frameworks out there that isolate you
from the work needed to make the javascript work across browsers. My
favourite is prototype (prototype.conio.net) but there are many.
