Well, true 5250 devices don't ... but who uses a real 5250 anymore?

What about a Java applet? Easy deployment model, rich control set, security (assuming I understand the sandbox concept correctly). Seems like a very reasonable compromise between a pure browser interface and a fat client.

Hmmm, let's see - I regularly connect to a variety of iSeries machines, assigned to development or test, on all of the currently supported releases. How do I have the connections configured? Telnet - a commonly used internet protocol! Consider how people connect to timeshare services like NetShare400 - could it be telnet too? What about people who use terminal emulators like tn5250? I'd guess that a lot of people here on this list connect to their iSeries machines using an internet protocol, perhaps even an absolute majority of us.
