In addition to Joel's excellent comments, may I add another thought? DUMP, DSPLY and QSYSPRT can all be your friend in cases like this. Very often, I create a data area that I use to toggle the 'debug' mode on and off. In my code, I check the data area and if it's set to debug, I issue a DUMP, DSPLY or WRITE some output to QSYSPRT. DUMP in particular is great because it takes a snapshot of all variables at once. When you find the problem it's a simple matter to toggle the data area to the 'non-debug' state. Then, in a year, when some odd thing crops up, you can turn debug back on and look at it without a struggle. --buck
