Kevin I am pretty much at the same place you are. The only conclusion I have managed to arrive at so far is that the effect you are seeing is because WebSphere does everything. I remember having these same thoughts about Domino two years ago, but I now understand that Domino can't do everything. For the things it can't do (I'm not clear on these) you need WebSphere. You'll also need MQ. MQ is a different kind of product to Domino and WebSphere. It can't do everything but it is needed everywhere. I'm told that with Domino, Websphere and MQ you can do anything. In fact I would bet that any kind of e-question at all will provide a 90% likelihood of one of the above products being mentioned, a 75% chance of two and around 40% probability of all three. I'll be interested in any sensible answers :) Cheers Evan Harris >OK Before I start, > >my knowledge of RPG is good, and, of Websphere - non-existent. >I have read Brad's e-rpg book. > >my question is a real 'Back to Basics' question. > >What does Websphere do for me.?? >Can I not develop the same type of applications using CGI-s and RPG. >without learning another language?? >Then, I can utilize current skills sets etc.... <i am sure there have been >numerous discussions for & against this> > >Please excuse the basic question, >but i have yet to read an article that does not assume that I know what >websphere does. +--- | This is the WEB400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to WEB400@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to WEB400-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to WEB400-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
