Akami technology http://www.akami.com (means cool in Hawaii) They have 4000 servers spread out world wide, then they cache the image (per your request) and serve it from the closest server based on where the end user is located. Example - person is on AOL, image is served within AOL. Images serve @ lightning speed, and the only time your server is hit is when the image changes... VERY worth while to offload the images to another server. -Andrew Andrew Borts / Information Systems Project Leader Seta Corporation 6400 East Rogers Circle Boca Raton, FL 33499 E-mail: Andrewb@setacorporation.com Corporate web site http://www.setacorporation.com E-Commerce web site http://www.palmbeachjewelry.com Voice: 561-994-2660 Ext. 2211 / Fax: 561-997-0774 -----Original Message----- From: MEovino@ESTES-EXPRESS.COM [SMTP:MEovino@ESTES-EXPRESS.COM] Sent: Wednesday, January 31, 2001 12:23 PM To: WEB400@midrange.com Subject: RE: Web? > Well - we're using CGI/NetData and it looks JUST fine, we're on a kick butt > 270, and we're using akami to speed up graphics load times, this way the > 400 ONLY serves HTML content. What is akamai doing for you? Are they hosting the graphics, and you just reference them in your HTML? > I'm considering JSP's because it keeps the browser doing native things with > the server, and the end person ONLY see's simple Java based stuff, but > that's kinda what NetData is doing for us... Yeah, I thought about the same thing, what with all the hype about WebSphere. But I didn't see a big advantage over using Net.Data. Then we talked to one of IBM's marketing guys, and he actually counseled us AGAINST using WebSphere, because it was too much for our 170 to handle (I'm guessing our new box would probably do just fine with it).
