Yes - since Windows 7 the Program Files directory is "virtualized" - no user space program has permission to write there - they should use the "Program Data" directory for writing of "non-user-data".

I always unpack the RDi Zip-files in \Users\<my-user-id>\RDi\<directory-of-choice> - so it is always in the user realm, and no permission problems can occur.

Normally I also make a simple copy of the directory before upgrading or installing plug-ins - because the whole RDi installation is self-contained inside the directory.

No, nothing about spaces in the directory path. In Windows the “*:/Program Files*” directories get permissions forced on all the occupants that disallow a user from changing a file, you can write new ones but not change existing ones. Applying a license, connecting securely initially, applying updates, installing new plugins, etc. all require that the contents of files be amended.

Hi Mike

This is one of the path issues that I believe has existed since the start of WDSC/RDi. At risk of being rude, this seems like a silly thing that should not happen. Is there some technical issue that makes it impossible to have blanks in the path?

I did google again about this and found the following for installing from the web -

Unzip the file to a local folder with no spaces in the name.

I just don't understand this one. And it is so easy to trip over it.

If the install directory “C:\Program\IBM\” is in fact “C:\Program Files\IBM\” then that is the behaviour that I would expect. Re-extract (do not move) to C:\IBM\ then try licensing again.

Then likely, as Vern indicated, you have enabled floating license
enforcement

If you go to Help>Manage Licenses what is the License Type and License
Status values?

From that dialogue if you click on the Apply License button to the right,
then click on the radio button “Disable floating license enforcement” then
click OK what is the License Type and Status values?

Ake ,

Have a look at these two tutorials from Steve Farrel.

It explains the new way of activation.

History so far:

I downloaded 9.8 as a trial and later paid for a permanent licens.

Had difficulty finding the activation package but after a lengthy call to
IBM support (where I had to explain what RDI was) I eventually got an email
pointing me to a site within Passport Advantage with downloads.

I could not ONLY download the activation package but when I clicked download
link for 9.8 “2 files” activation was one of these.

Hooray!

I have then follows the very instructive youtube video on how to apply
activation package. Every single step. Double checked and triple checked.

But… License status remains as “trial”

Or should it be trials and tribulations?

Or as the germans say “Warum etwas einfach machen wenn mann es auch so schön
comlizieren kann”…
