There are circumstances that can cause issues with the update as I understand it. Commonly if you tried pushing the check-for-updates before the repository was in place Eclipse will “remember” that there was nothing there then seems to ignore it I think. If you also add in some 3rd party plugins and keep the option “Contact all update sites …” checked then you are tilting the chances of winning away from you.

To wake up the Eclipse config to the RDI repository changes and have the best setup to update RDI cleanly:
Help>Install New Software
UN-check the option “Contact all update sites…”
Click on “Manage…”
Select the “IBM Rational developer for I update site”
Click Reload then click OK
Click “Apply and Close”
Select the “IBM Rational developer for I update site” in the Work with: drop-down
Click the checkbox for what you want to update (hint, everything listed)
Click next and bop on through the update process (license agreements or whatever)
Restart RDI when the update is complete
Happily use your updated RDI

Works for most folks and the development team is working on making it problem free for more. For greatest happiness tilt the odds in your favor?

Well, the "install new software", "check for RDi updates", "check for
software updates" options didn't work with this fix pack. I and others had
to uninstall RDi and reinstall it.

Hi Eddie

I don't that anyone should try to kill Rdi. There's a place for both RDi
and Code for i, which is also very cool.

Fortra now develops RDi - IBM do have others do the development at times,
but the support is IBM. Another example is BRMS, they contract that out, as
well, and support again is IBM.

Mike Hockings, who is at IBM and supports RDi, gave us the best approach
in a post here today, I believe. Basically it is to use the Install New
Software option.

Vern

I thought it was outsourced to Fortra also. The software is downloaded
from an IBM site and when I go for help, it's always through IBM, and I get
responses from an IBM team. IMHO, I think they're trying to kill off RDi in
favor of Code for I. Once I can get all the plugins I have on RDi, I'm
switching.

Does IBM still do development on RDi? I was thinking this was
outsourced to HCL.

I think Fortra ( previously named HelpSystems ) are the ones running the
development since some years back.
