Can I just point the new version to my existing workspace? Or should I create everything from scratch?

Is it possible for IBM to make something as simple as downloading a software update any more difficult?

After searching for 45 minutes to find the updated software, I elected to download using the browser instead of download director. Currently, the download will take 1 DAY over a 1GB internet connection.

So I cancel and try to install Download Director... but it won't install because my Windows 11 PC doesn't know what to do with a .JNLP file.

I give up.

Go to the RDi home page at
https://www.ibm.com/products/rational-developer-for-i and near the top
on the left side is a button to 'Download the trial'. Do that. It turns
out that the trial IS the real deal - all it is missing is the
activation kit.

Then you'll need to install it. 9.8 is a different type of install -
it's very much like Eclipse now. Unzip it and you're done. The Eclipsen
call this a p2 deployment.

After that, you need to get your 9.8 activation kit. You can't use your
9.6 activation kit. The 9.8 trial is good for 120 days, so take your
time. If you pay for RDi through Passport Advantage, that's where you'll
find the key. If you pay for it through ESS, go there to get the key. At
least it's small in size.

Finding all this out is the hardest part of the process. The secret
sauce is to click the Documentation button at the bottom of the page.
