Just my CAD$0.02 (and here we no longer have pennies so you understand the value)

Using Run-as-administrator unnecessarily will just mess up permissions in your install. With 9.6 IF you had an Admin install then elevation was required to manage the configuration (apply licenses, install plugins and the like)

Unless you have 9.8 stuffed in a protected directory in Windows (and why would you really do that to yourself?) then Run-as-administrator is not required or desired and could lead to future issues.

I think you will find that Eclipse 4.23 will only securely update and does not even try to read http connections. I have tried to use https for some of the failing update site addresses and the site seems to push it back to http and fail. The work-around would be to download the update as a .zip and apply it from a local repository.

Mike

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: [WDSCI-L] RDi 9.8 & iSphere (and other plugins)
I've had the same experiences when trying to install iSphere 5.2.6, and
then upgrade to iSphere 5.2.8 on RDI 9.8.

My workaround was to download the package from sourceforge, org, open RDi as
administrator, set up a local repository, and then install. I have two
Windows 10 Professional boxes; on one, I ended up uninstalling iSphere
after fussing for a couple of hours.

These are growing pains--there are lots of moving parts--and they'll get
sorted out.

Hi David,

at the moment it seems that RDi (most likely Eclipse) does not follow
redirects when attempting to install new software.

So far I understood that switching the protocol (http -> https) is not an
option when following redirects. But I still do not understand, why
following redirects does not work if the protocol is the same.

Thomas.

Betreff: [WDSCI-L] RDi 9.8 & iSphere (and other plugins)

Happy Tuesday All!

First, thanks to a post on this list I was able to install stuff from the
Marketplace after adding a few additional update sites -- priceless!

DBeaver from Marketplace = OK

SQL Explorer via Update Site = 301 error...

...changing URL to https allows me to see the software, but then it fails
to install on "Unable to read repository" errors...

iSphere fails via Update Site = 301 error...

...changing URL to use the master.dl version gets past the 301 errors, but
then it shows the Compare Filters will not be installed for some reason.

...iSphere via Marketplace = 302 error

Happy with the enhanced language support (like *CONVERT), but until we can
get the plugins we rely on working we are holding off on full adoption.

Has anyone else seen/bypassed what I am seeing?

Thanks!

David
