That's an IDE thing, in Eclipse and others.

Eclipse is an IDE and an execution platform both (like Apache Netbeans).

You could have a wholly different installation leveraging Eclipse for a
different kind of tooling for a different purpose, but multiple Eclipse
instances share this workspace metaphor and to some extent configurations.

So you'd want different workspaces for your differently purposed toolchains
that both used Eclipse as their hosting platform.

That's one scenario.

Or, you might have different customers, both for RDi, and while working at
a customer site, not want to show anything from the other customer's site
while your current customer was peering at your screen over your shoulder.

That's another scenario.
