From the implementation side of things when the network appliance "forgets"
the connection they do not do a disconnect and inform both ends so that
they can close the connection. So ACS or RDI just try to talk over the
connection that should be there. The default communications time-out is 2
minutes for most systems - kinda close to forever for impatient types it
seems?

Vern,
The VPN time-out settings would be a server-side config thing, not
something that a VPN user can change. You *might* squeak by with 25 mins
but 15 would be ideal IMHO. The IBM i idle timer affects the connection
between you and the IBM i through any network appliances and the VPN. The
VPN time-out would be just between your PC and the company network
(hopefully that makes sense)

Not to mention that in this respect both ACS and RDi suck big time.

When something causes the connection to drop both of them spin for way too
long before finally giving up. Drives me nuts.

Hi Steve

I have to ask - is there not some way to handle this from the RDi side? I
was looking at ACS, and all I see is the auto-reconnect, which tries to
connect after recovery from failure, so that doesn't seem quite the same.

Thanks for your help on all this!

Hi Alan,

Typically it's the TCPKEEPALV setting on the IBM i side.

The default is 120, but preferred is 5 to 15 minutes.

Hi everyone
Something of a newbie to RDi
Still learning about it
Using Version: 9.6.0.8 20200403_1723

How do I stop the RDi from disconnecting - or at least lengthen the time
before it disconnects I have tried a google search - but nothing seems to
be out there All answers gratefully accepted Alan Shore E-mail :
