Re: Is RDi 9.5, RDP 8.0 or even WDSCi 7.0 still in use?

Thanks for helping me out with this.

I used IBM installation manager to add the license initially when the thumb drive was plugged into laptop 1.

On laptop 2, I started RDi (with admin power) and went to help / manage licenses. A window opened with showing RDi and no license key available. I clicked the apply license button. IBM installation manager opens and shows no installed packages. The only button that is enabled is Cancel. If I start IBM installation manager outside of RDi, the button on the first screen for license keys is missing. I can't install the key when the thumb drive is plugged into laptop 2.

Since everything works on laptop 1 but does not work on laptop 2, does that mean when I installed the license on laptop 1, it stored it on the C: drive and not the D:drive? If so, that means my license key (in some form) exists on a client's laptop, correct? Is that a licensing issue if my key is laying around on other laptops? Is there any way someone else can use it such as putting RDi on their own thumb drive and plugging it into the laptop?

This was 9.5 not 9.6.

The error is a popup window stating "Operation failed with exception
'org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException: License key check failed for
plugin com.ibm.etools.iseries.connectorservice.'"

Behind that window is another popup stating "ProductInformation
[productid=com.ibm.rdi.rpgtools] is enabled for licensing but no license
key is available. To purchase a license, go to
[6]http://www.ibm.com/software/products/us/en/dev-itm-i.

There is also a link on the window for "Purchasing and enabling
licenses" but it does not work.

I do not get an option to point anything to the .jar location.

I have uninstalled everything from the thumb drive ( D: ) and then I
copied the install directories over to D:. The license key is also in a
directory on the D: drive. I installed RDi from the D: drive and
pointed the install directory and shared directory to the D: drive.
Everything installed. I then went into installation manager and
installed the license, selecting the
com.ibm.rational.developer.ibmi.rpgcobol.v95.pek.jar file from the D:
drive. It updated correctly and I was able to download and modify
source.

I moved the thumb drive over to the other laptop and ran the program.
The IDE opened but when I tried to open the same source member that I
was able to open on the first laptop, I received the above popup
windows.

Is there a particular directory that the .jar file should be copied into
on D: to make it "be quiet"?

I assume this for RDi 9.6.0.x
in which case, somewhere on your old machine you have a file
called com.ibm.rational.developer.ibmi.rpgcobol.v96.pek.jar
I recommend copying it on to your thumb drive.
When it complains about needing a license, point it to this jar and
it
will be quiet after that.

Where did you put the workspace? Is that on the thumb drive?

It is good that you found that the key might be a problem - but for
the
benefit of others reading this ... No key was needed for the base
experiment. The license runs for 120 days without a key.
