A snippet would work, and I have a ton of them for other things, but
then you have to drag the snippet over to insert it into the code. Of
course not the end of the world, I just wanted a key combination to do

ctrl+space brings up a whole slew of stuff not just my custom template.

Are you on Windows? If so, do yourself a favor and get AutoHotkey. You
can set up a hotkey which only works when a particular window is
active. Will accomplish exactly what you want.

A similar (and for all I know, even better) thing for Macs is Hammerspoon.
