Well, isn't that interesting. I'd be inclined to look at the job log in
the green-screen and read the second-level help for those messages. Maybe
for debug you need some additional authority?

Thank for the reply Mike.

In answer to your questions;

What is selected in the call stack? It shows the correct service
program and procedure

Is the currently stopped thread what is selected? Yes

Are the debug icons lit up at the top of the Debug perspective? Yes

If you click the Resume icon (vertical yellow bar and green right-facing
triangle) does it continue? Momentarily then just stops.

Is the icon lit (active)? No

Let me try and provide more details;

Debug starts correctly and I can step my way through the program and
any/all program calls until it gets into the PHP Programs like
PLUGPASE.MBR

If I click resume the call stack now shows;

tmp [IBM i: Incoming Remote Debug Session]
Platform IBM i *UNKNOWN* Connection from mwcmp.msd.net.au:3825
Thread: 1 (running)
Process 541316/PHPUSER/XTOOLKIT Program ISSSRV002

In the joblog for that job there are errors; (I do not see these errors if
I am not in debug)
Attempt to use permanent system object QTEMDBSV without authority.
Attempt to use permanent system object QWTPECTL without authority.
Attempt to use permanent system object QTEVSIRF without authority.
Attempt to use permanent system object QTEVINVR without authority.

The Resume is greyed out.
The Suspend and Terminate and disconnect buttons are available

I have to click Terminate

What other info could I provide to assist in determining the cause.

Thank you

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [WDSCI-L] Debugging in RDi
Sent by: "WDSCI-L" <wdsci-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I am on version 9.6.0.6

I am debugging a service program that is called from PHP running on IBMi

I set a service entry point in a service program I want to debug.

I initiate the required process from the web page and RDi switches to the
Debug perspective and I am in the program I have set the SEP for.

All good so far.

I set a breakpoint on the line I want.

This is the ONLY breakpoint set.

I press F8 to resume and the program stops at my break point.

I use F5 to step through each statement and subsequent call. As other
programs are entered they are added to the debug perspective.

I now want to resume and press F8 but the program does not seem to resume.

I click into the program that the debug perspective tells me is active and
press F8 which seems to do something as I am repositioned in the source
but the program is not resuming.

In GS debug I have;

F10=Step
F12=Resume
F22=Step Into

I thought in RDi these were equivalent to;

F6=Step over (Same as GS F10)
F5=Step into (Same as GS F22)
F8=Resume (Same as GS F12)

Is this correct ??

I have not found any way to actually get the process to resume without
ending the SEP and commonly having to restart RDi.

I generally do not have these issues if debugging a non PHP initiated
program.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

Don Brown
