Hi Steve

Just a little clarification on opening a member, based on the 3rd paragraph below - I know, it's not exactly the same thing.

So when I double-click on a member to open it, it comes up marked with Browse - there was a change not too long ago in computer years where there's a preference for this - in the Objects Subsystem we can choose to always open in Browse mode - I like this, because I usually open members in Turnover for editing - other times I usually want to browse.

Now if I use the "Open Member In Editor" dialog, it keeps the browse or edit radio button from the last time I called it up - I use Ctrl-Shift-A for this.

To paraphrase, So many options, so little time!

Seriously, when there are several places to control behavior, things get interesting - and support has to be far too much fun, eh?

Regards
Vern

While the RFE is related, it's not a cure all. And yes it would be a preference and defaulted to no.

Lock on startup would mark files Browse if someone else has a lock. Just like if I tried to edit a member you have locked, but if it happens on an Edit request we prompt the user for killing the locked job, or opening in Browse, but on startup you would never want to end the other locks.

Also if you open all of your files as Browse, we don't establish a lock either until you toggle it to Edit.

Save as or Copy should allow a user to make a copy with a connection regardless of having a lock. I have co-workers who creates a member, ctl-a to select all and copy then paste to get around this defect. Seems to me a Save As or Copy should always allow the user to determine local or remote copy.
