Tim,
Is Visual Studio code really an "IDE"? It is a "Code-Editor" only.
I happen to love NotePad++ as my lightweight very fast code editor tool.
I guess you could consider that NotePad++ is lightweight IDE too.
My boss and all my co-workers use the full-blown Visual Studio Code Studio, and that take 1.5 hours to load up. And apparently they have to reload it ever couple of months to 6-months. What a nightmare.
In contrast, approximately our RDI upgrade takes under 20-minutes with web-install. Last time it took me only about 8-minutes! If I do the full download, the install time is under 20-minutes.
The full blow Visual Studio, not VS code, is extremely heavy weight Product. It eats tons of resources on our laptops.
I am just saying you are comparing apple & oranges. Big difference between a "Code-Editor" and an "IDE". I stick with Notepad++, because it handles everything from JSON, XML, HTML, etc. For my "side" editor. Although I very often use the Web Page editor in Eclipse Neon, it is fabulous!

OH yeah, the update to NotePad++ is EXTREMELY fast too! But is it lightweight code-editor, just like Visual Studio code.

...don't get me started on this! The other IDE I most frequently use is Visual Studio Code, every month I get a little notification to tell me there's a new version and would I like to install it, about one minute later it's installed, restarted and ready to go.
