You're confusing the connection name with the Host name Jeff.

By default it copies one to the other when you create the connection. So if you need to switch to a DNS entry and not the IP simply change the Host Name value.

But the Connection name is used as a folder within the workspace - so (without export/import) you will indeed lose the filters because you're creating a new connection effectively.

I guess it might work to simply rename the folder but I've never tried it.

Jeff,

If all you wish to do is rename your system connections, you should be
able to right click on the RSE Host name, select the properties, change the
information on the Properties panel.

The HOST name is the actual host DNS name you added and the Connection
name is viewable in RSE. They can be different if you wish.

How?

I exported, made the properties changes on the existing connection, then
imported. Everything is back as it was as if I had done nothing. Right
where I started.

Hi Jeff,

It's best to export your properties first.

Open the export configuration dialog. Click File > Export > Rational

Once they are exported, you can use the File > Import..

Here's an older link, but it should help.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Change remote system properties with no loss of
filters

All,

I connect to a single system via IP address. I decided I want to
connect to that system via a DNS entry instead.

I right-clicked that system, selected properties, and proceeded to
change it to the DNS entry. After reentering my password, I had lost
all the filters, etc I had set up. Thankfully I had made a copy of the
workspace.

How can I make that change to the remote system without losing
everything?
Or make a full copy (copy/paste did not do it)?

Thanks.
