And then "Un-Check" the "update the Outline view when text is changed in the editor"?

Just want to verify...

In my case, I would think most of the time, I would want that OFF. Although it is a cool feature...

When you get ready to work a big chunk of code that has a lot of place holders (as you posted earlier) turn off live outline. See if that changes the symptoms.

Don't forget to turn live outline back on when the code is back to normal...
