Jon is so right about the ISVs. Many of them choose not to update their base code. We cannot fully embrace all the latest/greatest in RPG because one vendor still has RPG/400 code. They do have a code generator that generates the more modern extended specs for use in their 'modern' GUI, but they limit Table column names to 6 characters.
Others choose to not fully understand the platform. A certain DB utility maker refuses to fully understand Date Data Types and how to process them. This was several years ago, maybe they got their stuff worked out.....

Thanks

I have to agree with all of Buck's sentiments - except why the heck do the updates in the RPG/400?

Having been part of the team that spent many many months making sure that there were as close to zero incompatibilities between the two compilers as possible in order to make it easy for people to convert without fear it really pains me to see people wasting time and money living in the past. It has been close to 25 years for goodness sake.

And yes JDE I do include you and all the other cheapskate ISVs who keep their customers in the dark ages.

There - I feel better now!
