Subversion already has a foothold in our company. My research into the whole Subversion vs Git was to see if there was a reason to upset the apple cart. Git did not present anything that was an OMG we have to switch. :)
Also, my history is in using a CMS like TurnOver where multi check-out was not allowed. So, I align more with having the central location and you grab only what you need to do what you need.
Regardless. No matter how many toys there are, you will always have a favorite. :)

Git came out in 2005, which subsequently is the same year that Windows XP 64-Bit Edition was released (Wikipedia) and a year *before* V5R4 came out (wiki.midrange).
The only newness is that it was just offered on the iSeries with 5733-OPS / SI61060 (2016?).

Yes, Git is distributed.
That does not mean you don't have a Git "centralized repository".
It just means that everyone who connects to the Git repository gets a local copy of all the info needed to see history and version information.
Before reading this article comparing Git and SVN I couldn't think of any advantages of using SVN.

I did the research of Subversive vs Subclipse about a week ago.
Subclipse is supported / developed by a group of people closely tied to Subversion. Development continues with it.
Subverse is supported / developed by a group of people related to Eclipse. Development stalled and/or in 'incubation'.

I decided to go with Subclipse.
As for Subversion vs Git. Researched this a couple of days ago. There are pluses and minus to both. Also they are architected entirely different. Git is distributed, Subversion is centralized. We are currently using Subversion, but the software we use recommends Git. After this research, I think I will recommend staying with Subversion for now.

Just curious why you would choose SVN over Git nowadays? Of course if that is what the organization has standardized and it is too much inertia to move, then I understand. EGit will work with RDi as well.
