Darren,

Yup, it has happen to me a lot...

Lots of luck trying to duplicate it, and opening a PMR.

Save often, and double check your source frequently...

A Restart also helps. Deleting code should be unacceptable, but unless you can duplicate the error, how to do you open a PMR?

What version of RDI are you using?

Sorry, no work around, just go slow and verify your source.

Of courses the other option is to open it up with LPEX, instead of the designer. I have had whole portions of code deleted! Oh well, that is how it goes....

I have been unable to duplicate the error. But, anymore I go SLOW, and then it seems to work okay.

Subject: Re: [WDSCI-L] Designer whacking source when copying

I have a record format defined in my DDS. I copy/paste that format within the source, so that I can name it something else, but during the copy it seems that the designer is removing some of my source records. I also see it placing more comment text within the middle of my source, in addition to the comment stuff that is at the end of the source. This additional comment section isn't necessarily an issue, except that its an indication that the error is occurring. I've tried to edit the source with just LPEX, but I can't seem to open the source without the designed getting involved. I'm actually considering falling back on SEU, which won't try to help me by categorizing source so much.

Anyone know why this is happening or a good work around?

The old CODE DSU utility had various record format controls which allowed such functions as copy, paste, duplicate, rename, etc.

Unfortunately, many of these simple "usability" controls are missing from Screen/Print Designer in RDi. (At least, I can't find them!) So, the only solution is to resort to editing the source code. We could submit an RFE, but I suspect it would attract very little support since DDS and green-screen are regarded as obsolete.

Incidentally, you CAN elect to open DSPF/PRTF source with LPEX; either change the File Association preference, or just right-click member > OPEN WITH > LPEX Editor

Brian.
