Just tried this - very nice - it'll save me when pasting SQL statements I've worked on in STRSQL or the statement processor or wherever.

Now a question - this IS an overlay, so it simply replaces whatever was there - different from the SEU overlay that doesn't replace existing characters.

I wonder if there's a way NOT to have to put in a bunch of blank lines to hold the text that will be overlaid - just curious - it's easy enough to press Enter a few times!

I've not looked, so maybe there's something already.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.

Thank you for this tip - it is one of the best I've seen. I paste code from iSeries Navigator all the time and really dislike the way it left adjusts all but the first line and the error messages for each, and then having to do a block move. I set up a user key action as you suggested and it pasted my SQL in perfectly, right where I wanted it. Thanks!

Is there an EASY way to copy text and "paste-overlay" in a RPGLE
source member?
I do paste-overlay all the time -- from clipboard, even. Alt-Z is
only for those situations where you have a block currently marked (still
highlighted) by having used Alt-R at top-left and bottom-right corners of
the block. To paste-overlay from the clipboard, I set up my own shortcut
key sequence using Alt-P. The action is "pasteOverlay".

Dave Clark
