From outside of RDI/LPEX there is no easy way. But I just paste into the array zone then use Alt+R (at block start), Alt+R (at block end) then Alt+Z for overlay or Alt+C for paste block insert.

If you need to make adjustments to source like moving block code left or right you can use Alt+F7 for move left with truncation (remember Ctrl+Z is your friend when you go too far left) or Alt+F8 got move right with insert.

I use these keys a lot when defining a DS for my SQL results. I copy a list of fields into the array, fix/format as I want, use Alt+R for block highlight start and stop, right-click-L-E to fill that block with LIKE(, block mark my field names and overlay after the "LIKE(" then use Alt+R to start a one column wide block to fill with ")".

Thanks, Matt

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Copy from Text and Paste-Overlay

Is there an EASY way to copy text and "paste-overlay" in a RPGLE source member?

I've went back to a discussion I started over a year ago. Now I need to do this again. In the amount of time I have wasted attempting to do this, I could have just re-typed the 42 lines of data.

I tried copying from Excel, Notepad, even a text file in RSE, then pasting using ALT-Z.

I'm sorry, but simply copy and paste should not be this difficult. :(
