Our purchased ERP and financial systems software were written in RPGIII and we are still maintaining the green screen interactive programs from those systems. Indicators are used all over the place and aren't documented in the programs so it is often critical to figure that out when modifying or fixing one of those programs. All of our new green screen development is done in RPGIV/RPGLE and indicators are used only with display files. For those reasons, I prefer to have numbered indicators in a separate indicator section and be in numeric order (helps when you need to find an unused indicator).
For me, I vote for 2B or 2C.
I have no preference for 1.
