Good information to have... for those of us who understand it.

But this is EXACTLY why I feel the way I do about ACS. Can you imagine trying to have a user (on the other end of the phone) do this on their PC? Now multiply that by 100 users. This is just ONE example.

Question... is this netrc ultimately just a "text" file? If so, that means your userid and password is stored in a simple text file? Doesn't that violate Sarbanes-Oxley and PCI DSS?

With ACS, there is no Windows credentials, as before. The only way to have
the credentials persist after a logoff would be to use a _netrc file. Place
a _netrc file in the user's home directory (often C:\Users\<user>). The
format roughly follows the documentation here:
https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_aix_71/com.ibm.aix.files/netrc.htm

We support the machine, default, login, and password directives. So for
you, it's probably a one-liner:
default login myuserid password mypw
After that's done, go to ACS, Edit->Preferences, and check the option to
use a netrc file for authentication. Of course, make sure that the file and
directory permissions are locked down accordingly.

Alternatively, one can set all system configurations to use "Shared
Credentials." If your passwords are the same across partitions, the user
will only be prompted once for the entire set.

Is there a way to suppress the initial signon dialog for ACS terminal
emulators?

I use SquirrelSQL.org with great success. But, some tell me that is an
"Exception" rather than rule.

So far, A.C.S. has been good for me. Although I haven't figure out how to
do the auto sign-on...

It just depends on how the code is written, just like RPGLE, or name your
language... <LOL>

PS. New Workspace is still working GREAT! :)<Big Smile>

You're right about Windows 10. But ACS does not have navigator... you have
to use the browser interface, which is terrible.
It's incredibly slow on startup.
It has no install (or remove).

And please forgive me, but I can't stand most java applications - they are
so finicky.

It is different, and the new navigation takes a while to learn. Change is
hard...

My only real complaint is it does not start up as fast as the old client
Access...

But, we will be going to windows 10, eventually. And from what I
understand, client access won't run on Windows 10, but ACS will!

I initially hated it too. Only because I missed the keyboard map. But, once
I got use to the new navigation, I like it. Still have more to learn.

Yes!

A.C.S. Access Client Solutions, an 100% Java Solution!
<Big Smile>

And SquirrelSQL.org, which also uses Java.

Do NOT know if they are "Big Java Applications" or not... <puzzled-look>

RDI seems to use its Own "IBM" Java... <LOL> C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP_1\jdk
\jre\bin\javaw.exe

My folder "SDP" contains RDI 9.1.1.1

My folder "SDP_1" contains the RDI 9.5
