I've tried the following as well just in case:

created a new connection
disconnected and connected
uninstalled rdi and re-install
try from WDSC 7.0

Nothing works, same error

Merely a WAG, that perhaps the DDM Server at the IBM i is having difficulties or is non-functional, for the user profile being used? Maybe a look at the history log or the joblog for the job that services the DDM request could assist; i.e. look at the server-side instead of the client side? IIRC the DDM server jobs are named QRWTSRVR and logging is [by default, if not customized,] controlled by the Job Description (JOB) named QDFTSVR in QGPL.
