I think the confusion is that the Alt-F7, Alt-F8 keys aren't activated until a rectangular block is selected (much like Alt-Z), so it makes sense that it would only affect the selected block. It doesn't do anything with normal selections, or if nothing is selected.

I've been using code block copy/pasting in RDi for many years now.
Alt-R first position
Alt-R second position.
Alt-Z where I want to put the block overlay paste.

Alt-F8 shifts everything from the cursor position to the right, just as Alt-F7 shifts it to the left, so what you're talking about Alt-F8 makes complete sense, although I'm not sure why it's a part of the block paste conversation.

Roger,

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I have that need all the time - overlay a block of code.

Mike,

The blocking does not behave that way - or I have not been able to. Even when you use the ALT keys to mark/move a block of text, it still moves characters to the right of the blocked text (i.e. if you have comments out to the right of code, then block the code, and then use ALT-F8 to move the code to the right, the comments move also).

I tried the overlay option, but that doesn't seem to work. In fact, the code blocking itself is sometimes quirky (clicking sometimes causes a different block to be created, etc.).

I don't believe that the copy-paste in PCOMM is exactly pure Windows but rather augmented by PCOM to give the rectangular (non-stream) copy-paste behaviour.

In LPEX if you use ALT+R to mark then ALT+C to copy does that not do what you wish?

I would love to be able to do block oriented copy/paste.

For example:
d Field1 s 1a
d Field2 s 3p 0 d Field..n s 7p 2

I'd like to be able to paste the block of field names like this:
         Field1
         Field2
         Field..n

And then add to the end of each line - which may also be a block copy/paste. Easy in SEU with Windows copy/paste.

I gather it's a base Eclipse limitation as I haven't been able to Google-ify a solution.
