I have had the same experiences in many places where I have worked. In some corporations, I was the first developer to request WDSC/RDP/RDi be installed on my PC. I have heard many reasons such as all that have been listed. Yes, it does not work EXACTLY like SEU/PDM, but then again, if I wanted that, I have SEU/PDM to use. I KNOW I am more productive with RDi as I have been told that in two different places where I have worked, but I have a hard time quantifying why.
I make it a point to make sure the software is either loaded on my PC, or available. If a company says they don't use it nor install it, then I have severe reservations about working there.
