If your path points at \IBM\SDP\something_or_other, it's the bundled JVM that came with RDi. It's only if it's pointing at the directory where you installed an independent instance of Java, usually something like \Program Files\Java\jre7, where the version of Java provided by Oracle matters. I assume IBM has tested RDi extensively with their bundled JVM and that it's reasonably solid, whereas if you use the external JVM from Oracle you may see variations in behavior from one Java update to the next.

Thank you, for my RDi install I see:
java.home=C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\SDP\jdk\jre
So it would seem we will want to make sure the machine
we install RDi 9 on is Java 7 Update 45 or later
