Eric:
I am on RDp 8.0.3
Help - Installation Details - Configuration shows:
java.fullversion=JRE 1.6.0 IBM J9 2.4 Windows 7 x86-32 . . .
java.home=C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\SDP\jdk\jre
Does that mean my install "is impacted by the system updates" ?
I'm guessing "the system" is my PC

RDi ships its own IBM JRE and is not impacted by the system updates. The JRE included in RDi is updated in RDi fixpacks.
Note: the Oracle/Sun JRE (probably what you are seeing with Java 7 Update
45) is not officially supported by RDi.
Thanks,
Eric

Thorbjørn,
Thank you, for my RDi install I see:
java.home=C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\SDP\jdk\jre
So it would seem we will want to make sure the machine we install RDi 9 on is Java 7 Update 45 or later

I do not have any newer RDi installed, but for newer Eclipses you can see which JVM is used for running Eclipse itself by opening Help->About, chose the "Installation Details" button, and choose the "Configuration" tab.
This gives you a lot of information. You should look for the "java.home"
system property.
For me on a stock 32-bit Eclipse, that line is:
java.home=C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7
If you have a value pointing "inside" your RDi installation you have a bundled JVM, and the update should not have affected you.

Thorbjørn,
I can barely spell Java, can you tell me more about what to look for in the Help-About box.
I see 8 details for Eclipse, but no entry that starts with "Java"
We are just now planning our upgrade to RDi 9.1

It used to be that the default installation of WDSCI brought its own JRE along (for stability reasons I suppose).
Is this still the case? You can checkwhat JRE is used inside the Help-About box.

Not sure if this will help but two days ago I got a Java Update notice so I upgraded to Java 7 Update 45 and some of the random buggy-ness seems to have stopped.
By random buggy-ness I mean starting RDi V9 and sometimes not having my connections appear (which requires a simple shutdown and restart), and sometimes when switching perspectives or bringing RDi into focus from the start ment, the perspective bar wasn't always visible.
I'm running Win7 Pro 32 bit too.
Hope that helps.
